2008 Grant Guidelines

forms and guidelines are in pdf format
As part of its longstanding mission of celebrating and supporting the very best in theatre, the American Theatre Wing provides funding to New York City not-for-profit theatre organizations to both honor and sustain their work. In 2007, 53 companies received support from the American Theatre Wing.

ATW grants are made annually in December; the application deadline for 2008 grants has passed. Below are the guidelines for 2008. The 2009 guidelines and application materials will be posted in June 2009. Prior recipients must re-submit annually; there is no automatic renewal of grants.

General Criteria
  • Applicants must be a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization based in New York City, whose primary activities center on the production and/or development of dramatic and/or musical theater.

  • Preference will be given to organizations that have produced at least two shows within the past year and that have scheduled at least two productions in the coming season. Developmental companies must demonstrate a consistent program of workshops and/or readings.
  • Service organizations and organizations in their first year of existence will not be considered for funding.
